AL-Riwaq was a catalyst for the evolution of the area of Adliya, into, a sought-after location with a bourgeois and hip café culture. The reasons for them choosing this area even before this movement had started was the quaintness and potential of the quiet, primarily residential area, at the time. Today some older residences still exist among new-builds, contemporary cafes and restaurants, apartment blocks and on the other side; shawarma alley, touristy shops and carpet dealers. The beauty of this area is this melange, containing a myriad of textured surfaces, shapes and colours that make it appealing in the abstract. The combination of the various found ‘pieces’ are what accumulate to create beauty as a whole.
